NJ Statewide Transition Plan: SAY NO! – SIGN THE PETITION

Please read the following message from Parles Rekem, LLP and SIGN THE PETITION:

Parles Rekem, LLP is sending this newsletter to alert you to the ongoing battle over New Jersey’s proposed Statewide Transition Plan (“STP”).  As part of the federal Affordable Care Act, each state is required to file an STP with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).  New Jersey’s proposed STP is the most restrictive plan of any state in the nation and is more restrictive than the federal rule requires.  If approved, going forward it will ban all campus-based programs and farm communities for individuals with autism and developmental disabilities.  It will limit housing options to group homes of no more than 4-6 people.  It will also prevent persons with developmental disabilities from living in apartment buildings, complexes or intentional communities where more than 25% of the residents are developmentally disabled.

The proposed STP includes unreasonable mandates for inclusion in adult day programs and fails to take into account person-centered planing. This overly zealous plan to mandate inclusion at all costs, regardless of a person’s needs, must be stopped. The features in this newsletter will bring you up to date on many of the advocacy efforts that we have been involved in throughout the state and on a national level.

We  encourage you to get involved in stopping the STP which, if approved, will have a profoundly negative effect on people with autism and developmental disabilities. The STP is discriminatory, offensive and unreasonably limits choices at a time when an array of services is desperately needed. One size does not fit all!
